South Northants residents have helped define a clear set of housing needs as the reorganisation of local government in the county continues to progress.On Monday, 8 July the South Northants Council (SNC) Cabinet adopted the council's Housing Strategy which will guide developers and social housing providers towards the delivery of housing needed by the district between now and 2022.During a four-week public consultation in spring 2019, 202 comments were made on the draft strategy, mostly by district residents but also by social housing providers, SNC members, county council colleagues, voluntary and community groups, and SNC staff.Cllr Karen Cooper, SNC's portfolio holder for Wellbeing, said: "It is not a requirement for the council to have a Housing Strategy, but it is best practice."And with great changes ahead for the county we see it as important that the needs of South Northants residents' are clearly defined and built upon robust evidence."We're incredibly grateful to members of the public, partner agencies and SNC staff for the valuable contributions they made via the consultation."The new strategy's three priorities are: building homes people need and can afford, enabling people to live settled lives, and developing strong partnerships that help provide services that meet the needs of residents.As a result of the consultation additional targets were include in the strategy before adoption, including: to work with partners to develop options for older people and those with specialist housing needs, to explore technology that allows people to stay in their homes longer, and to make people more aware of what affordable housing means and how it can be accessed.For more information, visit - http://bit.ly/SNHousingStrategy2019to2022END
