Householders in South Northamptonshire are being congratulated after Government figures show they have helped the district become the 7th best in the country for recycling.

Defra Figures for April 2017 to March 2018 published this month compare the 345 recycling areas in England and show the district is recycling of 60.5 per cent of the waste it produces.Cllr Dermot Bambridge, SNC's portfolio holder for environmental services, said: "We were 8th the year before so I would like to thank everyone for their continued efforts to support recycling in this district."Although our recycling percentage was down slightly due to the summer weather resulting in less garden waste, there was also a reduction in the amount of non-recyclable rubbish being put in the black bin which is very positive.""It is not only good for the environment but it helps keep costs and Council Tax down."During the same period the average national recycling rate fell by 0.3 per cent to 44.8 per cent.As volumes of waste peak over the festive period, residents are urged to recycle as much as they can.
