Heritage Society - Paul Crofts -‘The Life and Times of the Wellingborough Diggers of 1649’

Wed, 08 Apr 2020 19:30

Although the Wellingborough Diggers were active for only a brief time, their influence can still be felt at the annual Diggers Festival. which was set up in 2011 by a group of local people who respected the Diggers ethos and wanted to commemorate the nine men who were acknowledged in the Declaration of 1649. At that time poverty in the area was widespread and on 12th March 1649 they formed a committee to enable the purchase of land.
